>> How you dress and your overall appearance can play a role in how you're perceived in the workplace. You might find it difficult to land a job or advance within a company if you're deemed to be unprofessional. [ Music ] Number one, the corporate interview. Industries like finance and consulting, to name a couple, tend to have a more formal dress code. For the corporate interview, a business suit and tie is more than likely going to be your safest bet. A solid navy blue or dark grey suit with a white shirt is a classic look that has stood the test of time for a reason. A solid or a striped blue shirt can look good as well. Your tie should be reserved with a simple print and a conservative or a solid color pattern. Overly-bright colors or a wild print may attract attention to you in a negative way. To complete the outfit, you should wear a black or brown shoes and a matching belt. Make sure to keep those shoes polished and looking like new. Number two, the start-up company interview. This would entail interviewing for a start-up company, or something in the creative world where a more business casual look would be most appropriate. In this case, a suit and tie would likely be overkill. Business casual attire consistent of a suit, but lose the tie, or, a nice pair of dress slacks in brown, navy, or grey. A button-down dress shirt, a blazer, or sweater can be included to further dress up the outfit. Again, conservative colors and patterns are recommended. Dark and well-fitted jeans can be seen as a nice business casual alternative. Number three, the networking event. Networking events come in a variety of forms, and, generally speaking, business casual will be the preferred look. The good news is you already have these looks ready. If you're coming from a corporate workplace environment, just lose a tie. If you're coming from a more relaxed business casual environment, you're already dressed perfectly. But remember, when considering the business casual outfit, it should be something that you would be okay wearing if you happen to bump into a client. Number four, the career fair. You're going to be in a room with many of your classmates, and you will be compared to them. How you dress can give you an immediate advantage. You'll be meeting with multiple company representatives and should, therefore, treat it like the first interview with each of them. You should take a more formal approach with a suit and tie look. You may be able to leave the tie at home, but regardless, you should dress and err more towards the corporate interview scenario. So good luck out there and dress the part. [ Music ]
