Make a real impact from day one. As an active-duty enlisted Coast Guard member, you’ll start with basic training in Cape May, NJ, then report to your first assignment to learn the mission, get hands-on experience, and explore career options across the service.
What to Expect
- Begin with boot camp in Cape May, NJ, where you’ll build fitness, teamwork, and core skills.
- Get your first assignment. You’ll serve at a Coast Guard unit where you’ll learn the job and see career paths in action. Your location is based on service needs and your preferences, with options nationwide.
- Choose a career field. When you’re ready, attend job training (“A-School”) for 3+ months to gain leadership, adaptability, and advanced technical skills.
- Do work that makes an impact. Operate boats, maintain jet engines, run dining facilities, and much more.
